Greek Musicians from the Symi Music School

symi musicians.JPG

The music school of Symi was a vision of the founder of Symi festival Yiannis Diakogiannis. in 1999 when he told Nana Mouskouri about his vision she was very happy to donate the first funds (1.000.000 drachmas). More money was donated by the Greek Parliament, the books and the first musical instruments were donated by journalists who were friends of Yiannis. Piano, guitar, violin, byzantine music, folk music were taught and the lessons were free for everyone.

We are so pleased to welcome Nicoletta ( classical guitar ) and Hara ( piano ), both of whom received their diplomas this year, to our Semley Summer Music Festival.

Nikoleta started guitar and piano lessons when she was 11 years old. When she started her studies in the department of Philosophy at the university of Patras she continued her guitar studies with the same teacher who teaches at the Music School of Symi since 2005. She got her diploma in classical guitar last June (which is HUGE only 11 people got their diploma within 30 years!)

They will be playing as an introduction to Daniel Bovey’s Tribute to Julian Bream, so please join us on Thursday 18th August at 18:30 for their very special guest appearance.

All tickets for Daniel’s performance will include access to this event.
